what to expect

The Implant restoration Process

After your implant is surgically placed by a specialist, it will take about 3-6 months for your jaw and gum tissue to completely heal. Once your mouth is healed, Dr. Miller will take images and impressions to create your custom restoration. We work with high quality materials and a trusted dental lab to ensure that your restoration is long-lasting and looks natural once it is placed in your mouth. After your restoration is checked for proper fit, Dr. Miller will permanently attach it to your implant using special dental cement.

Are Implants Right for Me?

How Should I Care

For My implants

Caring for single-tooth implants is very easy. Basically, you can treat your implants the same way you treat your natural teeth. Brush twice a day for two minutes and floss once per day to keep them strong and healthy, and avoid gum infections like gingivitis, which can cause damage to your implants. In addition, you should see a Sunbury dentist every six months for a teeth cleaning and oral exam at Shine Dental. This ensures that your teeth and your implants are healthy.

Caring for removable full-arch implant dentures and fixed implant-supported dental bridges is a little bit different. If you have removable implant dentures, you can treat them similarly to dentures. Remove them and rinse them after you eat, and use a toothbrush to clean around your gums and your dental implants. Depending on the type of denture, you may also have to remove them when you sleep at night and soak them in water or a cleaning solution.

For a fixed full-arch denture or dental bridge, you will need to use dental floss and an interdental brush to clean food debris and other particles away from between the prosthetic and your gums. This is very important for maintaining the health of your gums and avoiding gum infection.

Regardless of the type of implant you choose, Dr. Miller will provide you with comprehensive instructions on how to care for your new teeth, and ensure that you care for your implants and implant-supported restorations properly.

Do Implants

look & Feel natural?

Yes. Dental implants look and feel more natural than any other type of tooth restoration. This is because they imitate the natural structure of your teeth, with an implant that’s surgically placed into your gums, and a tooth-like restoration that attaches directly to this implant.

Whether you choose single-tooth implants or full-arch implants, your teeth will never shift or move, and will be held in place securely while you eat, speak, and smile. The high-quality materials used for your dental implant restorations will look just like natural enamel, so nobody will even be able to tell that you have dental implants

what can I Expect

from the healing process?

It usually takes around 1-2 weeks to heal from the initial dental implant placement process. During this time, you’ll need to follow instructions from Dr. Miller to ensure that you recover quickly, such as eating mostly soft foods, avoiding direct brushing for the first few days after your procedure, and avoiding heavy exertion and exercise for 2-3 days after your surgery.

Most patients experience a major reduction in symptoms like bruising, swelling, bleeding, and pain within a week of treatment, and their gums are mostly healed within 2 weeks. However, this is not the end of the healing process.

It takes about 3-6 months for dental implants to permanently bond with your jaw bone through the process of “osseointegration.” In this process, new bone will grow around your titanium implants, which will become permanently attached to the structure of your jaw.

Once this process is complete, Dr. Miller can attach your implant restoration and restore your smile at Shine Dental. While it does take a while to recover from implants, the wait is worth it. So be patient. You’ll have a brand-new, beautiful, natural smile sooner than you think! Call (740) 936-3083 today!
